Can You Guess the Two Most Potent Toxins?

May 28, 2010 by Bill Rawls, M.D.

Recently I was asked to do a talk on the topic of body purification and detoxification. At the beginning of the lecture I asked for anyone to name the two most potent toxins that threaten our health. Answers, of course, ranged from pesticides to mercury, air pollution to water pollution; but it was, admittedly, a trick question.

Though environmental toxins make a significant contribution to disease, oxygen and glucose were the correct answers. These two ingredients, albeit essential for life, also have the potential to be very toxic. In the process of producing energy, oxygen creates free radicals that are a major contributor to disease and aging. Similarly, we could not survive without glucose, but anything beyond the amount required to satisfy the needs of basic metabolism is too much. In fact, excessive consumption of glucose is the most significant avoidable contributor to chronic disease in our culture today—even beyond smoking.

I made this point to emphasize the importance of a total approach to health. Good health takes more of an investment than a two-day fast and a colon cleanse. For the body to properly detoxify itself, all of the pressures that cause disease must be reduced. This isn’t as hard as it sounds. Over the past several years I have developed a comprehensive approach for helping individuals achieve optimal health. I call it The Vital Plan.

The Vital Plan goes well beyond detoxification to address all aspects of disease prevention & recovery, and has become the foundation of my clinical practice. Over the next several months the FDNH website will be undergoing a facelift that will strongly reflect the Vital Plan concepts. I will be using this revised website to pass along ideas, recommendations and nutraceutical suggestions that will make it easy for patients to adopt healthy living as an essential part of life. Stay tuned— we have some very exciting features on the horizon at FDNH!

Well hello JP! Thanks for being in touch! Yes have been extremely busy this spring but hope to pick up the frequency of blog posts again soon. We are working hard on the new website and are also hoping to create an entire network for providers who are practicing welness-based medicine. Would love to explain more to you at some point! Thanks again for all that you are doing!
